The town of Saugus was established in 1887, and was named by the local land owner, Henry Mayo Newhall, after his hometown of Saugus, Massachusetts. This was the same year that the Saugus Train Station was built which was located near the intersection of present day Magic Mountain Parkway and Bouquet Canyon Road. The old Saugus School House which opened in 1908, located near the present intersection of Magic Mountain Parkway and Bouquet Canyon had a school bell housed in a tower, which is now located at the Jan Heidt Metrolink Station in downtown Newhall.

Saugus is home to a number of beautiful neighborhood parks, which include children’s play areas and picnic areas with tables.
The 130 acre Santa Clarita Central Park, is home to a variety of facilities including playing fields, baseball/softball diamonds, a community garden, Central Bark Dog Park, and a regional cross country course which provides local high school and college athletes a place to train and hold meets.
The 3.1 mile cross country trail located within Central Park is very popular for casual day hiking, dog walking, and bike riding right in the center of town, and new addition to the course, the Central Park Trail, connects Central Park to Newhall Ranch Road.
Mountasia Family Fun Centre is popular among residents and visitors to the area. They feature bumper boats, go-karts, laser tag, and mini-golf. There is also an ice cream shop. The nearby Santa Clarita Aquatics Center has a large swimming pool. The center offers program passes, swim lessons, and party rentals. In the summer there are youth swimming teams.
The average high temperature for this area is 79 degrees in July, but it does get as hot as 96 degrees. The average low temperature is 52 degrees in December, but it does get as low as 44 degrees. The month with the most precipitation is September.
Santa Clarita’s train station is in Saugus and is on the Antelope Valley Line. A large Walmart Supercenter is conveniently located and a popular shopping destination for residents. There is also a Home Depot Store. The local LA Fitness will take care of your exercise and fitness needs. Valencia Library close by, as is the Valencia Mart Shopping Center. Local restaurants and takeaways include Taco Bell, Domino’s Pizza, In-N-Out Burger, and The Original Saugus Cafe.
